Exploring our Community
Bringing learning to life
At Little Learners, we believe that the world beyond our nursery walls is full of exciting opportunities for children to learn, explore, and grow. Our community-based experiences, trips, and special visitors enrich our curriculum and help children build confidence, curiosity, and a sense of belonging.
Out and about in the community
We make the most of our local area with regular walks and initiatives that encourage children to be active, independent, and aware of their surroundings. These include; walk to school initiatives, scooter days that promote fun, fitness, and road safety awareness and local walks to explore nature, seasonal changes, and the community around us. These simple experiences help children develop independence, physical skills, and an understanding of the world they live in.
Weekly Forest School adventures
Every week, our children enjoy dedicated time at Forest School, where they can explore the natural environment, take safe risks, and develop resilience, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. From bug hunting to den building, Forest School is a highlight of the week and a powerful part of our early year's curriculum.
Exciting school trips
We are so lucky to be able to join the wider school community for whole school trips that create unforgettable memories and broaden children’s experiences. Recent adventures have included; Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm, Cotswold Wildlife Park and Bristol Zoo Project!
These trips spark awe and wonder, deepen children’s understanding of animals and habitats, and help them feel part of the wider school family.
Inspiring in‑house visitors
We love bringing the world into Little Learners too. Throughout the year, we welcome a range of exciting visitors and workshops, such as:
- Little City – a miniature roleplay village where children explore real life jobs and scenarios
- Hands‑on animal encounters, giving children the chance to meet and learn about fascinating creatures
- The Space Dome Planetarium, bringing the night sky and outer space to life
- Dance and cultural workshops, including colourful celebrations like Holi
Stay and Play sessions
We value strong partnerships with families, and our termly Stay and Play sessions give parents and caregivers the chance to join in with learning, explore activities alongside their child, and see our nurturing environment in action. These sessions strengthen relationships and help children feel secure and supported.
Little Explorers Baby Group (0 - 2 years)
We love welcoming the youngest members of our community through our Little Explorers baby group, held every Wednesday from 2pm–3pm for just £1. This friendly, relaxed session gives babies and toddlers the chance to explore sensory play, early learning activities, and social interaction, while parents and caregivers get to know our staff and setting. Little Explorers is a wonderful first step into the Little Learners family, helping children feel comfortable and confident long before they join the nursery.
